Our Services
What is home nursing care?
Home nursing care at Alter Ego is provided by experienced nursing assistants who bring daily assistance to people losing their autonomy. They offer a reassuring presence, physical help, monitoring and emotional support, day and night. Our nursing assistants have at least 5 years of field experience. To understand the differences between various care professions, check our article home nurse, nursing assistant and companion.
What types of home care do you offer?
We offer a complete range of services tailored to each situation: 24/7 home nursing, mobility assistance and fall prevention, personal and hygiene care, meal preparation, companionship and stimulation, and shopping and outdoor assistance. It's important to note that our nursing assistants cannot perform specialized medical procedures (injections, medication preparation), which are reserved for nurses.
How do your services work?
Our services are flexible and fully personalized. After a free initial assessment at your home, we establish an individualized care plan. Our nursing assistants can provide one-time services or continuous 24/7 assistance. You can also terminate services at any time, without notice. Don't hesitate to contact us to learn more about the specific steps.
Do you offer night services?
Yes. Our home nurses can work evenings, nights, or provide continuous 24/7 presence. For complete night care, we organize 8-hour rotations to ensure our caregivers' rest and quality of care.
Do you work on weekends and holidays?
Absolutely. Our teams are available 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Rates may vary depending on the schedule.
Can I get 24/7 assistance?
Yes, at Alter Ego, home nursing services are available 24/7. This requires staff rotations to respect rest times. We only work with partners who meet these requirements. You can increase or decrease hours according to changing needs, with no duration commitment.
Can you care for people with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's?
Yes, our nursing assistants are trained to support people with neurodegenerative diseases. They adapt their approach to each patient's specific needs: cognitive stimulation, enhanced monitoring, mobility assistance. To learn more about supporting specific conditions, read our article on Parkinson's disease and the nursing assistant's role.
Our Staff
How are your nursing assistants selected?
All our nursing assistants are graduates of accredited schools and rigorously selected. They go through a strict recruitment process: reference verification, in-depth interviews, and trial period. We require a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, as well as human qualities like punctuality, presentation and kindness. To learn more about our philosophy, visit our about page.
Will it always be the same nursing assistant?
Yes, at Alter Ego, the same nursing assistants always care for your loved one, as long as the beneficiary is satisfied. We place great importance on the relationship between the beneficiary and the nursing assistant, to create a peaceful, pleasant and trusting atmosphere. In case of exceptional absence (leave, illness), we ensure replacement by a qualified person who will be briefed on the situation.
What if I'm not satisfied with the nursing assistant?
Your satisfaction is paramount. If you encounter a problem, contact us immediately. We will review the situation and can offer you a change of caregiver if necessary, without delay or additional cost.
How do you ensure care quality?
Several guarantees are in place: the experience and qualifications of our staff, continuous training, personalized evaluation of each situation, regular quality monitoring and constant communication with the family. Alter Ego has over 25 years of experience in the field, and regular monitoring is performed to ensure services meet our standards. Rates and Reimbursements
How much does home nursing cost?
The cost varies depending on the type of intervention, duration, schedule (day, night, weekend) and level of care required. Since each situation is unique, we provide a personalized quote after a free home assessment.
Is the quote free?
Yes, the quote is completely free and without obligation. It includes a home assessment visit to understand your needs and those of your loved one precisely. It's also an opportunity to ask all your questions.
Does health insurance reimburse home nursing?
In Belgium, home nursing is not considered a medical service in the strict sense and is therefore not reimbursed by basic health insurance. However, some mutual insurance companies offer additional coverage and some hospital insurance includes a "home care" component. We provide all necessary certificates. For more details, check our pricing page.
Are there financial aids available?
Some aids exist depending on your situation: additional mutual insurance coverage, hospital insurance coverage, municipal aids, or the APA (Allowance for assistance to the elderly). There are also alternative financing solutions like life annuity. Our team can guide you to the appropriate options for your case.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfers and direct debit payments. Invoices are sent monthly with detailed breakdown of services provided. There are no registration or file fees.
Organization and Procedures
Which municipalities do you serve?
We serve the entire Brussels-Capital Region and Walloon Brabant, over 47 municipalities: Brussels, Uccle, Ixelles, Waterloo, Nivelles, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, and many others. Check our municipalities page for the complete list and find your municipality.
How long does it take to set up services?
Under normal circumstances, we can set up services within 48 to 72 hours after quote acceptance. In emergencies, we do our best to intervene more quickly.
How does the first day work?
During the first intervention, our coordinator accompanies the nursing assistant to make introductions, review needs and habits, and ensure everything goes well. This is a key moment to establish trust.
Can I modify or cancel an intervention?
Yes, you can modify or cancel an intervention by notifying us at least 24 hours in advance. At Alter Ego, there is no duration commitment and you can terminate services at any time, without notice.
How do you evaluate my loved one's dependency level?
The evaluation goes through several steps: a medical consultation, analysis of daily needs (mobility, nutrition, personal care), psychological evaluation, and discussion with the family. At Alter Ego, we develop a personalized care plan based on these evaluations, with periodic reassessments to adapt to the evolving situation.
